Your website gets visitors but no enquiries: 9 causes and how to fix them
Plenty of visitors, zero enquiries? These are the nine causes we see most often with business owners around Sint Niklaas, what you can do about each one yourself and how quickly it pays off.

You look in Google Analytics and see 400 website visitors a month, but no enquiries. Not a single one, or one a quarter at most, and even that one is the wrong kind of job. You paid for that website, maybe for ads too, and you are starting to wonder whether the internet works for a business like yours at all.
It does. Website visitors but no enquiries almost always comes down to one of nine causes. None of them calls for a new website. What they do call for is an honest diagnosis and a few targeted fixes. Below we go through them in order of how often we see them with business owners around Sint Niklaas, with what you can do about each one yourself and when it makes more sense to call in help.
The short version: why your website is not converting
No time to read the whole article? These are the nine causes, how often we see them and how quickly they can be fixed.
| Cause | How often we see it | Time to fix |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong visitors (wrong search terms) | Very often | 4 to 12 weeks |
| No clear call to action or button | Very often | 1 day |
| Website works poorly on a phone | Often | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Slow loading speed | Often | 1 week |
| No prices, not even a starting price | Often | 1 day |
| No proof: reviews, photos, case studies | Often | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Form too long or broken | Sometimes | 1 day |
| Copy is about you, not the customer | Often | 1 to 3 weeks |
| Google Business Profile half filled in | Very often | 2 hours |
Does your website tick two or three of those boxes? Not a disaster. It mostly means the first wins come quickly.
1. You are getting the wrong visitors
This cause is the hardest to spot and costs the most. Your website ranks high in Google, but for search terms where nobody is buying. A joiner from Sint Niklaas who gets 300 visitors a month for “treating wood against damp” has 300 DIY enthusiasts on his site, not customers. Someone who types “joiner Sint Niklaas price” is a customer.
Check in Google Search Console which search terms bring you visitors. If they are mostly questions and general terms, you have traffic without buying intent. The answer is not fewer visitors but different ones: pages that rank for your service plus your town, and for the questions people ask right before they call: what does it cost, how long does it take, who does it near me.
How to spot traffic without buying intent
- Lots of visitors who spend less than 40 seconds on the page on average
- Your most visited page is a blog article or an explainer, not a service page
- Your search terms in Search Console are full of “how”, “what is” and “DIY”
2. There is no clear call to action
It sounds too obvious to matter, but we see it every week. The visitor reads, finds it interesting, and then the page just ends. No button, no phone number, no “request a quote”. Or there is one, but right at the bottom, in grey, next to the cookie notice.
Every page needs one clear next step, and it should appear at least three times: at the top, in the middle and at the bottom. Call us, request a quote, book an appointment. One action per page, not five. Give people a choice of calling, emailing, WhatsApp, a form and a chatbot, and most of them pick none.
3. Your website does not work well on a phone
In 2026, 70 to 85 percent of visitors to our clients’ sites in construction, healthcare and hospitality arrive on a phone. If your website loads slowly there, the button is too small or the menu will not open, you lose three quarters of your visitors before they have read a single sentence.
Test it yourself, but not on your own phone with a fast connection. Ask a customer or a friend to open your website on their phone, on 4G, and watch over their shoulder. Can you see within three seconds what you do and how to get in touch? If not, this is the first thing to fix.
4. Your website loads too slowly
Slow websites lose visitors before the page even appears. The limit is around three seconds on a phone. Beyond that, many give up, and Google ranks you lower too. The culprits are almost always the same: 4 MB photos uploaded straight from a phone, twenty plugins when only five are actually used, and cheap hosting.
Measure it with Google’s free PageSpeed Insights. A score below 50 on mobile means this is where you start. The fixes are technical but manageable: compress images, set up caching, remove unused plugins and, if needed, move to better hosting. That is usually a week of work.
5. Your website shows no prices
To a customer, “price on request” means “expensive”. He does not know whether his budget is within your range, so he does not call. He calls the competitor who does show a starting price, and that competitor gets the chance to explain why it costs more.
You do not need to publish a price list. A starting price per service, with what is included, is enough to start the conversation. We do the same ourselves: a website from €750 and SEO from €249 a month. Since we put those prices online, we get fewer enquiries from people without a budget and more from people who already know what they want.
A from price on your website does not scare customers away. It scares off the wrong ones and keeps the right ones.
6. You show no proof
Everyone claims to deliver quality and put the customer first. Nobody believes that any more. What does work: photos of your own work, with the street or town. Google reviews with names. A case study with a number: “kitchen in Beveren, three weeks, within budget”. A customer who sees a finished driveway three streets away on your website picks up the phone. That is also why a separate page per town brings in more enquiries than a homepage that lists every town.
You already have everything you need: the photos on your phone, the reviews on your Google Business Profile, the happy customers you are allowed to name. Put them on the page where the decision is made, not on a separate portfolio page that nobody opens.
7. Your contact form is too long or broken
We have seen websites with an enquiry form with fourteen fields, including VAT number and fax number. And websites where the form had not sent a single email for months without anyone noticing. Test your form today: fill it in and check whether the email arrives, spam folder included.
A good form asks for four things: name, phone number, town and what the customer needs. Everything else you can ask on the phone. For tradespeople we often add a photo upload, so the customer can send a photo of the roof or the bathroom straight away. That saves a trip.
8. Your copy is about you, not the customer
Open your own website and count how often it says “we” and “our” compared with “you” and “your”. On most business websites “we” wins by a mile: we were founded in, we are passionate about, we guarantee. The customer skips all that. He is looking for his own problem on the page.
Turn it around. Open every service page with the customer’s situation: the roof leaks, the website brings in nothing, the logo dates from 2009. Only then say what you do about it, how long it takes and where the price starts. We use the same approach on our own pages, and the difference in enquiries shows within a few weeks.
9. Your Google Business Profile is half filled in
For local searches, Google shows the map with three businesses first, and only then the websites. Whoever is on that map gets the phone call, often without the customer even opening a website. Yet most business owners we meet have a profile with the wrong category, no services, three photos from four years ago and reviews that never got a reply.
Two hours of work puts that right: the correct primary category, all services filled in, twenty recent photos of your work, correct opening hours and a reply to every review. After that, one post a week. It is free and, for local businesses, the fastest win there is. For contractors and roofers we set this out in full in our step by step plan to get a construction company higher on Google in East Flanders.
How quickly will you see more enquiries?
Some causes are fixed faster than others. Across our own projects in the Waasland region, these are roughly the times between the fix and the first extra enquiries.
So start with what pays off fastest: the button, the form and your Google Business Profile. That takes one day and does not cost a single euro. Then the technical side, and only then new pages.
Fix it yourself or hire someone?
You can do the first five fixes yourself: add a button, put up a from price, test your form, upload photos, fill in your Google Business Profile. It takes an afternoon, not expertise. Which other SEO tasks you can handle yourself, and where outsourcing pays off, is covered in outsource SEO or do it yourself.
The rest, the wrong visitors, the loading speed and the copy per town, needs attention every week. That is what our SEO packages from €249 a month are for: we first work out why you are not getting the right visitors, fix the technical side and write the pages your customers are looking for. Every month a report shows you what it delivered. What other agencies charge and why the prices differ is explained in what SEO costs in Belgium.

- Put a button with your phone number at the top of every page
- Add a from price to every service

Frequently asked questions
How many enquiries should I get from 400 visitors a month?
For a local service business with a website that works well, we expect 2 to 5 enquiries per 100 visitors with buying intent. With 400 visitors that is 8 to 20 a month. If you are well below that, the problem is the visitors or the page, not the numbers.
Do I need a completely new website?
Usually not. Seven of the nine causes above do not require a new website. We only rebuild if the technical side is beyond saving (no mobile version, an outdated system, no more updates). A free audit tells you within two weeks which of the two it is.
Will advertising help if my website gets no enquiries?
No, it just makes the problem more expensive. Google Ads sends more visitors to the same page that already fails to convince. Fix the page first, then advertise.
How do I know whether my visitors have buying intent?
Check which search terms people find you for in Google Search Console. Terms with your service plus your town, “price”, “quote” or “hire” show buying intent. Terms with “how”, “what is” or “DIY” do not.
What does it cost to have Offlow look into this?
The audit is free. After that, it is up to you: we do the quick fixes from €249 a month as part of an SEO package, and a new website starts from €750. Every price is a starting price and you can stop any month.
