VBA Advocaten: a law firm that gets found for every practice area
A website for a law firm in Beveren, with a page of its own for each of its six practice areas.
Project description
VBA Advocaten has been around since 2013 and works for businesses, public authorities and private individuals, from an office in Beveren. Led by managing partner Vincent Bauwens, the firm is organised into departments in which lawyers focus solely on their own field. We built a website that shows exactly that: a page of its own for every practice area, a look that suits the firm and two clear routes to a first conversation.
The brief: getting found for every practice area
Someone with a construction dispute does not search for a lawyer in general. They search for a construction lawyer. A firm that puts all its areas of law on one general page makes it hard for Google to show what it is good at. VBA Advocaten has six clear practice areas, with automotive as its distinct specialism. Each of those areas had to be visible on its own.
Six practice areas, each with its own page
The core of the site is the overview of practice areas: automotive, construction law, property development and leases, personal and family law, insurance and liability law, and contract law. Each area got a short explanation in the overview and a page of its own with its own title. That way the firm gets found for the area it deals with, and someone with a construction dispute does not end up reading about divorce.
Automotive sits at the top on purpose. The firm is retained counsel for several players in the Belgian automotive sector, and that specialism deserves a place of its own instead of a mention among the rest.
The design uses a classic serif typeface with gold as an accent. For a lawyer, the look is part of the argument. The copy stays down to earth: short sentences, no jargon where it is not needed, in line with the firm’s no nonsense philosophy.
The phone number sits at the top of every page, because someone who has just been served a summons picks up the phone. There is also a second button, Ask us your question, for people who would rather sound things out in writing first.
The result
VBA Advocaten has a website that gets found for every practice area, names its specialisms separately and looks the way the firm positions itself. Because the firm is growing, the site also has a vacancies page, so new colleagues see straight away where they would be working.
